This photo session is with Steve and Debra and their family. It was a fun day on the beach we took many great photos. Right now we have having the Desert sand fog sitting over the area. This creates a foggy or overcast look blocking the sun some. But this makes it great for natural light photos as the sun is not to bright. And it cools everything down so we are seeing much cooler days right now for summer.

The Beach Club Fort Morgan

The Janice family photos were shot on the beach at The Beach Club in Fort Morgan Alabama. The Beach Club is a condo resort complex with lots to do and a fantastic beach for family beach photos. We have photographed many families at The Beach Club.

Natural Light Photography

Many local beach photographers say they are natural light photographers so what is that? Well plain and simple is the they only bring a camera and shoot only with what every the natural light is that day.

So if the light out is super harsh from the sun as it is many times or it is very overcast you get very bad photos or photos with blown out backgrounds or dull looking images.

Natural light photography can be great when the light is right for it and we shoot that way when we can and the light is right for that style of shooting. But on just about every family session the light is not right for the full session so you need flash to get it right.

If your photographer is not bringing and using off-camera flash then you are being cheated out of the better quality photos you could be getting.

If your family photo session is at sunset the only way to get great sunset photos with the sun behind you that is exposed as it should be is to use flash and off camera flash produces the best look.

On a overcast day to get bright clear images it is best to use off camera flash to add some light on the subject to produce a better photo.

On harsh sunlight days we see a lot of all summer you can not put the subject facing the sun to light them us they will be blinded by the sun. This can be shot two different ways one is with natural light but to do this you need to blow out the background to be able to lighten up the subject. Many people do this with such extreme you can not longer even tell you are on a beach as it is so whited out in the background Not the best photo on the beach anyone would want.

The better way is to use very strong flash to fill in on the subject. By doing this the photo can still retain all the beautiful backgrounds of the beach, water and sky all the reasons you want to have your photos taken on the beach.

So if your photographer is not shooting both ways you in reality are only getting half or less of what you should getting for your family photos.

We shoot every session in both ways as needed as the sun changes and at sunset we are ready for the sunset photos everyone wants with the right equipment to get the job done right. This takes us bringing more equipment with us onto the beach that many others do not want to use or even know how to use.

We provide you only the best photo quality using what ever is needed at that time bases on what the sun is doing. Natural light or off camera flash we do it all.

Posing and Fun Photos

We have been doing this a long time now and over the years we have created many special group family poses. Also single person poses that work well on the beach. We have also created many fun non posed photos we shoot.

Year after year others try and copy our poses we see it all the time. But with out good the lighting like we use they never get it right.

Many years ago we charged a lot more then we do now. But we now have simple basic photo packages that include everything you need at a great price. You pay one price and get it all. We do book up fast and we shoot a lot of Family beach sessions each year. We also shoot beach weddings so it becomes a first come first service booking and the sunset time go fast.

All our packages include all the edited images as high resolution images ready to print in any size you want. You images will be edited and ready to view and download most of the time within 48 hours or less. We shoot a lot of photos and groupings we have no set amount that we shoot and you get all the edited versions. In 2018 most sessions ending up in the 80 to 125 images range.

Mr. Float explained it would be him, his wife and their grandchildren. What better way than having their family beach pictures to document their rememberable vacation to Gulf Shores. We check the weather daily for rain because during the summer we get morning or afternoon showers. It had rained earlier in the day but by beach session time, the weather had cleared.

We met the Float’s an hour before sunset and had a wonderful session especially with overcast skies. Overcast skies on the beach make it easier for clients to easily hold their eyes open during a beach session. We love photographing after an afternoon shower because it usually leaves beautiful clouds in the sky.

Many photographers claim to be natural light shooters. The problem with this is on bright days natural light can be very harsh. Also, the wind blows on the beach and for great family photos, you do not want your hair blowing in your face. Gulf Shores Beach Photography Done Right

Watch out for group photography services. They hire just about anyone with a camera and do no background check and pay them a small amount. So what you end up with is a starting out photographer that has no clue of what they are doing. they do not have very good quality equipment or even a backup camera if something goes wrong. We see it year after year new photographers showing up at the beach just hired and not knowing what to do. Not trained in lighting and many have not lighting at all. Most of them are using the lowest quality cameras and lens and do not even know how the camera even works. They are promised extra money from print sales. After a few weeks, most of them quit and are replaced with the next batch.

We would never book a photography job and pass it on to someone we hired just to make money off of them. It is dishonest not something we will ever be apart of.

Any good photographer is not going to work for a photography group as they will be working on their own not working for peanuts.

As this new year starts we have a lot in store for 2018 including upgraded camera equipment and packages. We will be shooting a lot now with two cameras each camera will have a different lens on it. By doing this we can have one lens for the family group photos and another special lens just for the single and two-person portraits. With bokeh background, soft creamy blur to images has become popular we will be shooting for that style for the smaller and single photo shots. Sharp image with creamy backgrounds most shot using natural light.

Natural Light and Off-Camera Flash

After as many years we have been a Gulf Shores Family Photographer on the Alabama coast one thing we have learned is about lighting up our subject. Some days we can use natural sunlight and some days we need to use flash. On other days we can do a little of both. We so so many newer photographers shooting with no flash but the problem is that only works sometimes. The rest of the time if you do not use flash you do not get good quality images. Anyone can buy a camera and walk out on the beach and shoot natural light photos but very few will end up with good results.

We use a mix of natural light and flash photography so we get great images all the time. Not just sometimes. Bright clear in focus images that will print great for large portraits. If you look at many of the image other photographers posts you can see they are very soft not in focus. A soft looking image will not print well the larger you make a print the most it will look bad.

Happy New Year From Gulf Shores Beach Photographer Ed Morgan

With the economy booming, we are expecting a great year in 2018 for family beach portraits on the coast. For our last session for 2017 we shot in Biloxi MS at a park across from the beach by the welcome center. It starting to get cold here for the next week we will down in the 20s at night. But after newyears, we will be heading back to Gulf Shores on the 4th to get ready for the new year and booking new family sessions.

A New Family Photography Website

We have started a new website for family photography for non-beach photography for families and children called My Family Photography

We offer all your family photography needs and specialize in small children and toddlers. Yes, we are a Gulf Shores Beach Photographer but we also shoot many other styles of photography including beach and any location weddings.

Today’s session with Aerynn it was a little cold out but she did really well. As we moved around we had a good time and photographed many different photos around the park area. For editing, I special tinted some of the images giving them a nice soft look for a beautiful girl. I love the background blur we have in the photos or called bokeh.

A Police chase

Right now we are staying on the MS coast right now for Christmass and has this session setup only 10 minutes down the road but on the way, we ran into bumper to bumper traffic stopped on the main beach road. It turns out the police had the road blocked off as they had a police chase going on after a semi truck that stole things from Walmart and had him blocked in on the road.

So we ran late to the session and so did our clients the traffic was backed up and we had to take side roads all full of cars trying to get around the jam up. But all went well and we took photos of Aubree and Annie they are so cute and precious and even with it being cold out they did a great job and had a lot of fun. We would wrap them up in a blanket between different photos to keep them warm and happy.

Great news we will be back on the Alabama coast in January and look forward to being your Gulf Shores beach photographer for your family, toddlers, kids or family reunion. We also shoot high school senior photos and children of all ages.
